Who We Are

Commissioner and Staff

In November 2020, the WSIB’s Board of Directors appointed Tom Barber as the Commissioner of the Fair Practices Commission. Mr. Barber joined the Commission in 2017 as Deputy Commissioner, and fulfilled the role of acting Commissioner from January to August 2018.

Having previously worked in various roles at Ombudsman Ontario, Mr. Barber has extensive experience in the ombudsman field, particularly in complaints handling and resolution. He also has broad knowledge of the principles of fairness and a commitment to public service.

Mr. Barber and the rest of the staff at the Commission are committed to providing excellent service to the workers, employers and service providers who contact the Commission.

Our Mission

The mission of the Fair Practices Commission is to facilitate fair, equitable and timely resolutions in individual complaints brought by workers, employers and service providers and to identify and recommend system-wide improvements to Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) services.
